Opportunity & Challenge
We are a startup that wanted to bring on an agency to develop our app. We noticed some gaps in the market in terms of how audiences interact with films and cinema, so we brought in Altar to conduct the product scope and now also build the app
Solution
The scope of work involved a series of structured meetings to define the product’s requirements. After each session, the team came back with tangible progress, rather than more questions, steadily building out the product vision piece by piece. Their commitment to the end goal made the experience feel more like working with co-founders than with a typical agency. Most discussions took place over video calls, and the key deliverables included the product scope, user insights, stakeholder analysis, and technology mapping.
Team Composition
I primarily worked with three members of the team: the Managing Director, who also served as my main point of contact; the Head of Product, who led all product discovery discussions; and a Product Manager, who was deeply involved in making the project a reality.
Reason for Choosing Altar.io
We selected Altar.io after reviewing their client references and feedback, conducting initial calls with the team, and assessing their technical expertise. What stood out was how well their approach aligned with the needs of a startup. They demonstrated a clear understanding of early-stage challenges and showed integrity and honesty throughout our conversations.
Results & Feedback
Since our initial assessment and ideation, the product scope has evolved significantly. What we’ve ended up with is far more compelling and comprehensive than what we originally envisioned. The feedback, ownership, and dedication shown by Altar.io have played a key role in strengthening the product at every stage.
Their project management style was collaborative and consistent. We held regular video calls, and the team provided frequent updates, always remaining available for follow-ups and questions. The scope was delivered on time and with precision, requiring minimal adjustments.
What truly stood out was the team itself. This isn’t a typical agency that simply executes instructions — they take real ownership and treat your product as if it were their own. Their genuine care and investment in the outcome make them uniquely valuable partners.
While there were some minor technical issues and a few delays due to internal holidays, these were small bumps in an otherwise smooth and productive collaboration. The positives far outweighed any drawbacks.
